Hard to grow species? No problem.

Cultivated in a controlled environment, our Quart size biodegradable paper pots are grown to give you a longer planting window of 9 to 12 months versus the 4 to 6 months of a bare root product. The controlled environment also allows for production of "hard to find" species, along with "custom grows" that require specific species and seed provenance. Biodegradable paper pots also offer reduced transplant stress compared to a bare root plant.

What is a Paper Pot?

Our paper pots are equivalent in size (1 Qt) and growth to our Premium Bare Root Seedlings. The primary difference is that tree bands are grown in biodegradable paper pots that 80mm in diameter.

How do Paper Pots Help?

Many plant species are sensitive to moisture levels, and do not do well in propagation in solid walled tray cells.  Our biodegradable paper pots are used with RediRoot aeration trays to grow premium roots that do not circle.  Rather, the roots will "air prune" themselves, forcing more primary roots to shoot outward.  This leads to a nearly 100% transplant success rate.

Why Paper Pots?

There are a number of reasons why paper pots may be the best choice for your project.

  • A planting window of 9 to 12 months versus 4 to 6 months for a bare root product
  • Plant with the paper! Within weeks of transplant the paper breaks down and you have no plastic waste to dispose of!
  • Controlled propagation environment allows for production of those "hard to find" species
  • Controlled growth environment creates ideal conditions for extremely vigorous plants
  • Reduced transplant stress compared to bare root
  • Allows for easier "custom grows" that require specific species and seed provenance
